One Down, 17 To Go

The first week of the second semester has passed without major incident, and has proven much the same as any other first week – no homework, lots of social events, and catching up from summer vacation.

The classes seem pretty interesting so far. I’m actually getting into the meat of my major a little bit and lovin’ it! I’m learning how to program a microcontroller in Embedded Control and how to speed test it in Data Structures and Algorithms.

But then I am stuck in a few of what I call “Necessary Evil” courses… stuff that all core engineering students are forced to take if they want to graduate. These include a CAD class and Introduction to Engineering Analysis (mostly a physics class with a nifty name).

But I did manage to get a job for this semester (which should last into future semesters) as a systems administrator at the Rensselaer Student Union. There will be more details on that after I start the job, hopefully in the coming week.

So that leaves me with 17 weeks until the end of the semester, and currently (at the time I’m writing this) a little more than 6 weeks until Spring Break. It really doesn’t sound like that much time, and hopefully it will continue to seem that way!!

After a fairly uneventful, although long, flight back from Cairo, I have once again set up residence here at RPI.

When I arrived, the first thing I noticed was a horrible, rotten smell coming from my refrigerator. Evidently, ResLife unplugged everything in my room, including the fridge full of ice cream and other goodies.

But they also got my computer, which explains why the LemDesk web site went down during the vacation. But it’s back up now, and as you can see, there is a new look slowly being adopted throughout the site!

I have also begun a huge project to scan and archive more than 3000 photographs that I have taken throughout the past 19 years. I call this Lee’s Scrapbook, and I encourage you to take a look!

One more thing, if you’d like a more detailed account of my vacation in Cairo, take a look at Lem’s Musings!
