Chat with David

My buddy David Parker is my partner in crime… errr… fellow Systems Administrator for the Union.

Lee: David, you sound like a teenage girl

Auto response from David: Switching back and forth between talking on the phone and doing homework

David: lol
David: I’ve just spent more time on the phone in the last three days than I have doing homework
Lee: how are your cell minutes adding up?
Lee: are you running the risk of running out of minutes?
David: wow, so my billing period ends tomorrow, and I’ve used 336 of 350 daytime minutes, and 1572 of 2150 night & weekend minutes
David: holy crap, that’s 32 hours
David: think of all the things I could have been doing!

Lee: but 32 hours a month isn’t really that much
Lee: well… hehehe
Lee: 32 hours is 4% of a month
David: oh god
David: don’t say that

David: Sorry, I gotta go… phone call
David: Seriously
Lee: haha ok!
Lee: talk to you later

We’re both really geeky… lol… and we’re both addicted to our cell phones

So I convinced my good friend Shelley () to get herself a LJ. I must apologize for calling her a stalker in one of my previous posts, I should clarify that a little. Both Shelley and I are curious creatures, and I believe it to be a healthy curiosity that we exhibit. For some odd reason, people tell us things, and we have an interesting ability to research these things. Does that make sense? I love you Shelley

IMAP is cool

So I successively IMAP’ed my e-mail. If that doesn’t make any sense to you, then check out the article What is IMAP?.

I now have the power to check my e-mail (and read every message I have ever received) from ANYWHERE there is an internet connection. I feel so much more wired now ;-)

Mushroom Saga

When I got back to my apartment this afternoon and sat down on the toilet, I looked down and noticed a few “dots” suspended in mid air about 4 inches above the bathroom tile. I figured it was something that got stuck in a spider web or something. When I went in for a closer look, I found that they were mushrooms growing out of the floor!

When Michelle came over for dinner, she took a look and was completely horrified. I thought it was kinda funny and when I started laughing, her pissed look turned into a laugh as well.

This probably means that the floor under the bathroom is rotting. I’ve had my suspicions about it for some time, as the floor is kinda soft and the toilet squishes when you sit down on it. Really, my place is not ghetto at all. But now my bathroom grows mushrooms. I wonder what my landlord would say about that.

Ok, I am one of only 5 people that bothered to show up for DiffEq recitation today. I’m not even sure why I came because I already finished the homework.. oh well…

Here’s my away message from this afternoon:

Note to freshmen: If you buckle your Kelty laptop backpack around your waist, you will look like an idiot… have a nice day.

George Low

During my freshman year orientation, one of the guides said she liked to do her homework in the 4th floor lounge of the Low building. This was a great place, quiet, unexplored, and close enough to an Access Point to be covered in the campus wireless network. This summer that all changed!

George Low was a famous someone who used to go to RPI and was also involved in the NASA space program back in the mid-1960′s. Anyway, Low was also a faculty member (and President of the Institute) and a huge donor to RPI. I mean, this building is named after him and his picture appears on plaques everywhere. He is a regular RPI hero…

This summer, RPI took this perfectly good lounge on the third floor and turned it into a huge exhibit honoring George Low. According to the press release it’s supposed to look like a space station. With that, they covered the windows and installed really dim track lighting. In essence, RPI took a perfectly good study spot and turned it into a museum. In a silent protest, I am continuing to do my homework here right now, despite the lack of light.

On a brighter note, I finished my Differential Equations homework. However, the new carpet/furniture smell is starting to get to me, so I’m headed outside for some air…

Tonight was awesome in terms of homework completion! I had to hand in the DSA theory section in class today, but I had until 11:59:59 to finish the code for my encryption algorithm. I actually figured out the modular inverse function, and the rest of it was downhill from there! Now I can encrypt and decrypt my e-mail with ease :-)

I also did the physics homework tonight which is due tomorrow morning. That was less exciting, except to say that it’s done!

Now I’m off to brush my teeth and go to bed!
