Everyone feels a little bit differently about the holiday season, so I have created a short poll to see what you all think is the best part of the season! It only takes a second to leave your vote!

For the first time in several weeks, I have gotten up on a Saturday morning with no work to do! Michelle is doing some time trial thing for track, but after that we’re going to spend most of the day at the mall. We’re going to see Harry Potter at some point today, and then going out for dinner. Later tonight we might stop by a party that one of her friends is throwing. That’s the plan for today, I’m actually looking forward to seeing Harry Potter!
Today is the first full day of being DONE! I’m going to spend most of my afternoon catching up on all the work in the Union which I’ve neglected the past few days. Yay to that!
It is finally over. The final piece is done, classes are over, my semester is done (except for one final exam for DSA). I just submitted my DSA project, which really only half works, but it will be good enough for a B (haha depending on how lazy everyone else was, it could even earn an A).
Tomorrow is going to be fairly relaxed. I’m probably going to spend most of it in the Union catching up on all the work I’ve neglected for the past few weeks.
The nice thing about Physics 2 at RPI (and quite honestly the only thing saving me from a solid F in the course) is that we are allowed a crib sheet for use on the exam. That means you take an 8 1/2 x 11 inch piece of paper and cram as much of the lecture notes on it as possible, making sure to get all the equations and constants on there. It’s actually really helpful to make the crib sheet, because otherwise I probably wouldn’t spend too much time actually revising the lecture notes.
Anyway, I have finished my crib sheet, the longest part of the studying process. Now I’m going to start looking at the past exams and see what I can learn from those. Usually they are pretty helpful because they reuse a lot of the questions (same style, different numbers).
I woke up entirely too early this morning to study for tonight’s physics exam. The good news is that I’ve finished all other work due today so I’ll have some time to devote to studying. I found out yesterday in class that I need an 88 on this exam in order to get an A in the class without having to take the final. That shouldn’t be too hard, but it will take lots of preparation!
Ok, so Marie’s quote from my previous entry actually graced my away message for six hours straight!
Marie: so yea, i should walk out after class with a candy cigarette and pretend to smoke, i can make smoke outside since its so cold
I decided to skip my afternoon classes (COCO Lab and Diffy Q recitation) to come home and study for physics and finish up lots of homework. There is so much to do, so I’m trying to streamline what I actually have to do.
Here is what remains this week:
Today: Finish DiffyQ homework, study for physics
Wednesday: Study for Physics, Physics Exam, DiffyQ Review (Part 2), DSA Project
Thursday: COCO Lecture at 10 AM, DiffyQ exam at 2, turn in DSA theory at 3, submit DSA code at midnight
Friday: NOTHING!!! All classes are cancelled
I’m also thinking about which exams to take. Here’s the list so far: DSA and COCO. I definitely do not want to take DiffyQ or physics. Studying for either one of those would be absolutely painful, and if I do poorly on the final, it could actually bring my grade down. I’m shooting for A’s in both classes without the final. I have tests in both this week that will sway the balance, I’ll let you know how that comes out!
As usual, I spent at least part of physics chatting it up with Marie () on AIM. Here are some of the funny excerpts.
First, Marie’s good friend Amy gave her a pack of candy cigarettes, which have been pretty much banned from most places because people think they teach kids that smoking is cool. I’m not sure I buy that, but anyway Marie and I were joking about her new candy cigarette habit:
Marie: ohh i have some with me
Marie: i’m smokin’ over here
Marie: i’m making amy laugh by my cigarette
Me: does she ever partake?
Marie: yea dude, she gave them to me!!!
Me: she’s your dealer!
Me: that’s no good, either!
We were supposed to be listening to something about semiconductor doping. But we took it waaay out of context…
Marie: i love dope!
Marie: oops i mean doping
Marie:
Me: you’re turning into a druggie!!! I always knew that candy cigarettes were a gateway drug!!!
Me: yesterday it was candy cigs, today dope, and tomorrow you’ll be doing heroin!! I’m starting to worry about you!
Marie: oh we have good heroin in portland i’ve heard
Marie: we are known for our “black tar heroin”
Me: ahhhhhh… oh geeze
Me: better to smoke for 90 years!
Marie: we are huge druggies
Me: WHAT?!
Me: candy black tar heroin
Me: now there ya go
Marie: yea! that’d be great
Me: that won’t ever encourage little kids to do drugs!
Marie: NEVER!
This is a classic line… or soon to be classic!
Marie: so yea, i should walk out after class with a candy cigarette and pretend to smoke, i can make smoke outside since its so cold
Last week Marie expressed interest in trying some sheesha sometime. When I asked if Amy was going to come, here’s what happened:
Marie: i’ll make her come
Me: hahaha
Marie: shes iffy
Marie: but i’m good at convincing
Me: haha ok, no pressure… no pressuring Marie… no pressure!
Marie: oh man, all i do is pressure
Me: so peer pressure starts with you?
Marie: yes siree
And then the physics prof dropped the f-bomb… I swear she did. And she’s like 7 or 8 months pregnant:
Me: sounded like she just dropped the “F” bomb
Marie: wait what? i wasn’t paying attentin
Marie: haha
Marie: i was playing solitare…vegas style
Me: she shouldn’t swear, her baby can probably hear
Marie: ohhh she swore! that’s so bad! i never do that!
Marie: hahahaha
Me: haha
Me: uh huh, Miss Druggie
Me:
Marie: i knowi know
I’m really going to miss physics class with Marie… she and I shoot some of the best in-class breeze I’ve ever shot!
All I have to say is that Diffy Q has gotten much harder, and it’s going to take a miracle to get on this test the same score I got on the last test!!!
I went to the review session tonight and am thoroughly confused. But alas, there is another review Wednesday night which I will go to. My TA is leading that one, so hopefully it will be a bit easier to understand (although I never thought I would say that about my foreign TA compared to the American TA that led tonight’s review!).
