I woke up Saturday morning to a beautiful (sunny but still cool) day, so I decided to be a part of history and took the Metro downtown for the WWII Memorial Dedication ceremony. The atmosphere was amazing, with over 100,000 people wandering the Mall watching the ceremony at the monument on one of a dozen very large displays. They even brought in a swing band with swing dancers to take the audience back to the 1940’s era. I have some great pictures that I will get posted very soon. I stopped by for a refreshing brew and a Filibuster burger at Capitol City Brewery. Everything was well-priced (can’t beat $2.50 pints!) and some of the brew I had was tasty! I’ll definitely go back to try some of their other selections.
I came home Saturday evening completely exhausted, so I went to bed early. Sunday late morning I left for Laura’s place in West Chester, PA. Her graduation party was awesome! It was nice to get to spend some time with the folks I graduated with only three weeks ago. The food was awesome, conversation was great, the jukebox was fun, and of course this post would be incomplete unless mention was made of the yummy beverages served from the Yuengling keg!
I spent the night at Laura’s house, then on the way back this morning I stopped by the Iron Hill Brewery in Wilmington, DE to pick up a 1/2 keg of their homemade Raspberry Wheat. It came highly recommended by Laura, and that was reconfirmed by this article. I didn’t even think about it until I was just about back to my apartment, but every time I’ve had to work with a 1/2 keg, I always had help carrying it! When I got home, I had a 160 lb metal keg in my trunk that I had to get upstairs. I stopped by Home Depot (which was packed, being that it was memorial day – even their parking garage was full!) and bought a dolly. Now, I weigh around 160 lbs, so lifting a 160 lb keg was pretty tough! Getting it out of the trunk was actually all about a controlled lift-n-drop onto the dolly, but getting it into my fridge was really lifting 160 lbs. I finally got it in! Next time I’ll recruit someone to help heft it around. My kegerator should be here on Wednesday, and I can’t wait to tap this Raspberry Wheat keg and have a nice, fresh brew
I also started work last week, and so far I really love it. The people are cool, and the work has been interesting so far. More on that another time!
