This weekend was very exciting! Several RPi’ers came to town to meet up with us natives, it was great to catch up with so many of them. Sunday night JW threw a potluck dinner at his house, to which I brought the most college dish I could think of: Kraft Macaroni and Cheese along with a six-pack of Old Dominion Ale (minus the bottle I had before I left!). There were some great dishes at the party, and again it was great to get together with so many from the RPI crowd.
Monday morning we went downtown to catch the parade from my tried-and-true vantage point along Constitution Ave at 14th Street, on the EPA steps. It was pretty hot in the sun, and at times the parade seemed like it was going to go on forever. But each time my mind wandered to those kinds of thoughts, I just did a quick pan around the background and realized that I was watching the Independence Day parade of the nation in the shadow of the Washington Monument, less than three blocks from The White House. I thought it was pretty neat.
After a quick stop at Capitol City Brewery at their downtown location, I headed back to my apartment to take a nap and clean. Josh, Lily and Kat came over to take a quick dip in my building’s pool (located on the 19th floor roof of the building), and we ended up staying for the free food at the building-sponsored July 4th party. After a few beers and several bits of finger food, we decided it would be just as fun to stay there and watch the fireworks that were only a mile away. The major advantage of this decision is that we didn’t have to fight the crowds on Metro trying to go and return from the Mall downtown. The party was awesome, a very nice way to spend the Fourth!
