Today was the opening of the month-long Festival of China with some of the most intense fireworks I’ve ever seen over the Potomac River, near the Kennedy Center and the Watergate Complex. It started out with motor boats pulling small boats filled with fireworks that were launched as the line of boats passed in front of the Kennedy Center. Then there was a barge on the bank opposite of the Kennedy Center where they launched vollies of very brilliant fireworks whose percussive “bangs” rumbled against buildings surrounding the area. Very impressive!
The Weekend Section of this past Friday’s Washington Post contained a complete guide to the rest of the Festival. Many of the events or free, and the rest seem reasonably priced. We’re definitely going to hit up a lot of those while the weather is still amazing.
