Warning Labels

I’m always amused to read about new government legislation that limits individual rights, but lawsuit-weary companies taking the initiative is really quite odd.  See this article about how several major UK-based chocolate companies are labeling their products with warning labels.

I think that’s really great! Nice to see someone actually doing something proactive (well, sort of :P )

Hopefully it will have some sort of impact on individual’s choices and maybe other companies will jump on.

I definitely appreciate a proactive response, but a little part of me thinks that having warning lables does seem to take some of the fun out of eating a candy bar, doesn’t it?

haha, well i don’t mind that i guess….i’m not overweight or obese, but sometimes when you’re scarfing down maybe you need a reminder “HEY, GET OFF YOUR ASS, THIS IS THE SAME AS EATING A HANDFUL OF LARD ONLY WITH SUGAR”

they really should have the labels on the crust of pizzas or something…hmmmmmm

True, sometimes you do need someone to motivate you to not eat so many. But what good business sense does it make to be the one who makes the candy bars AND the ones who are trying to limit the intake of the same candy bars? I think education is fine, but chocolate… yea maybe a little blurb to tell kids to not eat too much, but nothing scary. Maybe some sort of chocolate mascot they can grow to love?

I think if people exercised a little bit more self-control this would be a non-issue. And I agree with the mascot idea, maybe an “Eddie Eagle” for fatty foods?

Yes, or maybe Terry the Trans-fat Tuna?
